Beautiful Land of Borinquén (Rondeau Poem)

rrodriguez

Beautiful land of Borinquén

Puerto Rico, island of my origin

Land of the Mighty and Noble Lord

Precious pearl greatly adored

Flowery garden under a warming sun

Land where God gave me my first breath

Please bury me there upon my death

Loved and are loved, now & forever

Beautiful land of Borinquén

Island of enchantment & much pride

Spanish, Black & Taino inside

In your distress I feel hopeless

And if I could rip my heart wide open

My love for you I cannot hide

Beautiful land of Borinquén

  • Comment from author about the poem: I'm torn inside by the images of distress my country is going through. I wrote this Rondeau poem to render honor to a beautiful country full of love. I admit, I don't master the meter nor the iambic pentameter, but I do have enough passion to render a poem strong enough to capture the heart of its reader. I used, rather than the traditional metrical feet, lines based on the number of syllables (syllabic verse) with rhyme. This Rondeau poem really expresses my heart. Enjoy!

Fabulous tribute - could almost be a national anthem - great work Roberto.

Now knowing your strict adherence to doing things right, I gather that your comment is an affirmation that the poem has merits. Thank you!

        You sure can Roberto - it's a cracker !!

I fear my penchant for presactness may be becoming a little overstated.
