Cattle Egrets

w c

Cattle Egrets

They flew toward their colony

Where they would find their perch

many there in the trees

Where raptors sometimes searched

They remained there for the night

Then returned to the cattle place

They really were a lovely sight

with the cattle as they grazed

They lifted high into the sky

When they travelled long

They looked a lot like a flock of geese

but had no honks as their song

I saw them there against the sky

With some rain there approaching

The egrets there in the air

As the shower began its soaking

The summer showers always ended

And the egrets found their peace

Beside the cattle they softly landed

Putting all of them at ease

They accompanied the cattle for the day

And then flew home again

To their colony where they would stay

With neighbors surrounding them

I think that I am suffering from deja vue, I though that I had commented on this poem yesterday saying how elegant egrets are.

Yes, Goldfinch. You commented on an earlier version of this poem. I made some revisions of the earlier version and decided to just delete it and resubmit. Sorry about that!
