THE MERRY-GO-ROUND

Louis Gibbs

Your challenges have all been met,

Your life's lessons have been learned.

Now comes the dubious reward

Of simply marking time until

We can do it all again.

I'll be glad to get off this

Merry-go-round!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Having prematurely tasted the shedding of this dense body makes one anticipate experiencing that glorious freedom again with impatience. The "Merry-go-round", of course, refers to cycles of life in the broader picture.

I am with you Louis, BUT, how do you know that all the challenges have been met and all the life lessons have been learned? The answers lie on the other side, where you will have your de-briefing and R&R, before starting all over again.
    Great poem

Of course you are correct. The lessons and challenges never stop coming until we do arrive at the debriefing. Just getting a little restless I suppose. Thanks for the thoughtful comment, Fred!

That Merry-go-round is our life and it doesn't necessarily go round in the same way, new challenges are always there ahead of us and they can be wonderful. Good write.

True, Goldie, but the Merry-go-round referred to in this poem is to the reincarnation of self into many, many lifetimes. I appreciate your comment as always, my friend.

You going round in circles there? Have a go on the slide, or hobby-horse, if you're in a playground!
Or - Stop the world, I want to get off'?

Your last sentence nails it, 'O'. The ride does get a bit tedious at times. Thank you for your input!

Very thought provoking is this about life cycles or reincarnation, good poem

            Thanks so much, WL!

            Hi Louis,

I like you are in the 4th quarter of the game and can relate to your words.

            Nice work!

Thank you so much for the kind words, JG!
