Carried

Louise Knight

I was born into the world by miracle hands,
carried to my mother's breast,
and for a while I was held close by,
until it was time to put my legs to the test.

I was lifted from the ground with many a grazed knee,
hugged tight til tears had ceased,
with words of encouragement and a stiff upper lip,
I soon turned into lightening grease.

I was sustained through my learning years,
as I wasn't of an academic mind,
but guided and molded by a teachers hand,
I found my own way and shined.

I was in love with a beautiful soul,
cradled within their heart,
In all my life I had never felt so safe,
I was waiting for our life to start.

I was pulled by hate from the place I loved most,
from our loving, heavenly shelf,
He clenched me as we fell fast into the cold,
to a place made by this devil himself.

I was thinking it was time for a change,
and the change never felt so right,
one day you know,
to hold yourself up and hold yourself tight.

I am carried by myself, by my family, by a friend,
carried by the drive to live,
and eventually carried at the end.

  • Comment from author about the poem: We are all helped and guided through life in some way or the other, I wouldn't be the person I am now if it weren't for the people would carried me through life so far. Don't forget the people who are there for you and those who have been but no longer are. Not only do we welcome loved ones help and guidance sometimes we are carried by things or people who are not so friendly and things happen in life we can't control and at those points in time don't be afraid if sometimes the only person to pick you up is yourself, it will make you a stronger person.
