the words in reverse

—the Muse unrehearsed

You made me think, Kurt. Do I live to write? I know I am not writing for a living. Do I write about my living? What is more important to me, to live, or to write? Or, are all these questions stupid, irrelevant?

Nope, good questions; as most questions are. When I teach, I always tell students with so-called
'writer's block' to go LIVE some more. It's the raw material we all draw from. There's an old school of thought (which I don't adhere to), that says "nothing written before the age of 40 is worth reading." I think it was Bertrand Russell who said it—but don't hold me to that.

Emily Dickinson, locked in a second floor attic, is pretty much a myth.... She lived her life vicariously through others which would never be my choice. I think, to me; that's why her writing has an other-wordly or ephemeral character that often wears thin.

The Muse unrehearsed is so right, I sit down to write with an idea in my head but by the time I have finished the Muse has changed the meaning on many occasions.
    Good write and very true.
