Plastic

Appletree

Paper thin, strong as iron

its glossy surface distracts us from reality

we play with it, and decorate, our homes

as if it matters.

We borrow everything we need

having forgotten what that means

and pay later, buy today

living out someone else’s dreams.

Action figures litter our homes

whilst heroes go unsung

We see the world through plastic drones

Helping others isn’t fun.

And now I care no more about the truth.

I care even less for those around me.

Distracted by the plastic I turn, smile

And see nothing.

Welcome APPLE and thanks for a great first poem ~ more please ! MPS is a great site and we will all encourage you to write more POETRY ! Your poem has great rhythm & flow which makes it easy to read and recite. The subject is very apt in today's "Buy now ~ Pay later" philosophy. The average HOUSEHOLD credit card debt in the UK is in excess of £13,000 and many are paying very high interest rates and getting deeper into debt ! Paying for CHRISTMAS on Credit is a big culprit ! Thanks for caring & sharing ~ Yours BRIAN (UK)
