Riding the wind, soaring high into the sky
Like a kite, the mind wants to be free and fly
Where a string controls and holds back the kite
The mind is subject to fear and anxiety that might
Hold it back from exploring and testing the unknown
Keeping it a prisoner of our own comfort zone
Water rushing downriver towards the ocean
Held in by river banks restricting and guiding its motion
Our mind too is channeled by our own projection
Into a pre-determined and given direction
Not letting it roam freely and happily perceive
All the great adventures and victories we could achieve
Just like gravity pulls everything back to ground
Holding our mind back is not very sound
We need to let it expand without restriction
Remove all obstacles, limitations, or friction
Only a mind that is unbound and free
Will let us see and experience all we can be

Fred,
The last stanza so true.
Unfortunately we get there too late because it’s the first two stanzas
that drive the force of the
first half of our lives!
We, as senior citizens, come to this realization a bit too late!
So let’s enjoy what we have left...
...if that’s at all possible!
A well written reminder to live this life on earth to the fullest!
Thank you for your thoughts!
~Laura~
Thank you Laura, I really do appreciate your lovely comment!
How wonderful would that be, fly free in the sky, run free in the ocean, be what we can be, be what we want to be.
M&M, you CAN be all that. It is only a question of how we look at the world. You can be in the most boring job, but nobody can tether your mind!
Thank you so much for your comment!
Sadly there's so many distractions from freedom and happiness that keep us bound the mind is the last truly free space
Thank you A.C., you are so right! No matter where our bodies are, our mind is free to roam.
A fine write Fred. I seek to go 'into' my mind more at times, e.g. meditation. Whether I find anything there, or draw a blank and find only sawdust in there, is another matter! lol.
Thank you Orch, and welcome to the club. Somebody could shoot me in the head and I wouldn't die. There is nothing there to hit!
"Keeping it (the mind) a prisoner of our own comfort zone" ... describes well the malady that afflicts most and retards our progress as a species, sadly. Your wonderful poem says it well, Fred! Congratulations on this fine contribution for consideration.
Thank you Louis, you made my day with your kind comment.
Ah - love the rhyming and meaning put into this posting Fred - -a perfect reminder to be all we can be then experience peace without restriction.
Thank you Fay, your comment is very much appreciated! It is a mind game, isn't it?
Brilliant, I'm at more free with your words. Amazing
Thanks PD! And my words will set you free.... 🙂
The mind is always free and goes on to infinity. Good write Fred.
Thank you Goldfinch! The mind does indeed go on to infinity! And beyond?
And beyond.
