If life is but an illusion
Then my pain is not real
Leaving me in confusion
About what it is I do feel
If life is what I make it
But I don’t have control
I am at the end of my wit
Despair taking its toll
If life is everlasting
When I lay down to die
It surely is contrasting
And possibly a lie
If life is a journey
But I don’t have a map
I will be at the mercy
Of strangers laying a trap
If life is a dream
I don’t want to be awake
Afraid I would scream
Seeing what is at stake
If life is too short
There is much
I might have to abort
Without losing my touch
If life is a song
I don’t have much choice
But to sing right along
At the top of my voice
If life is a game
I will have to play
To stake my claim
And have it my way
If life is a joke
The joke is on me
I have to carry the yoke
Will never be free
So why worry about life
Go on, do what is right
Avoid any strife
Live in utter delight

Life is a gift
Every day and night
Just as this poem
This gift you write
Thanks for this write Fred. Very well said.
Thank you AP! And thanks for the nice poem!
Absolutely true Fred! The last stanza in your write says it best...that’s what our aim should be. Tonight it’s more evident than ever. My mom lives not too far from the carnage that took place a few hours ago in NYC!
A frightening situation!
Thank you Laura! I read about New York. It is just crazy! We now have to keep looking behind everywhere we go.
And if life is all of the above ... or not ... all we can do is live it to the fullest, "in utter delight", as you say. Well written food for thought, Fred!
Thanks Louis! You know writing to live life in 'utter delight' is so easy, but actually doing it is a whole different ballgame.
I hear that!
Great poem! I think your last stanza is perfect--all 4 lines. Thanks for sharing this well written poem!
Thanks Christina! I do like that last stanza myself, but as I said to Louis, it is much easier to write than to do.
Life is there for you to deal with as you can and you have chosen the best way, as have I, live in utter delight.
Thanks Goldfinch! I am so happy for you!
I thought this was about my wedding! oohh lol. I dunno about utter delight. It sure is utter misery for me now! heehee.
That utter misery will turn into utter delight during your wedding night! See, it even rhymes!
