I’m told I have the gift to write
And who am I to argue, maybe their right
To them, thankyou I must say
And also to angels within at work and play
To write, I must listen
Of words in my heart surely written
Sometimes I’ll finish prose started months ago
Or from start to finish, just an hour or so
But it’s my belief we all have this gift
Hidden in your heart, waiting on your viewpoint to shift
To express that which inspires you
The miracle of love and heartache too
As a young boy
I longed for not the usual toy
But for words to share
Like lyrical thoughts aloft in the air
So now I must write
No matter the hour, sometimes till very late at night
I’ll write it all down
Full of adjectives, verbs and nouns
It’s all there waiting on poetic birth
Your feelings and all their beautiful worth
The shy voice inside
Given faith, it will overcome the urge to hide
If you allow yourself to listen
To your heart of all you otherwise would be missin’
I beg of you to try
Express what’s in your heart and why
The writing bug will let you know if you’ve been bitten
Shhh, listen

I have been listening, AP, but all I hear is the tinning in my ears!
Love your poem!!!!
Maybe fine tune your ears like a radio station to the broadcast from your heart Fred. I know you've done it from all the great writes you've penned.
I get the 'shy voice' at times. Maybe I 'don't like to say' (or sing!) in case I think it's showing-off.
Yet, as books on the shelf unread, or jewellery (watches, cuff links, etc for men) we might never wear. They will just 'sit there' otherwise, and gather dust.
A word in your shell-like? i.e. your ear!
Just write down what your heart has to say orchi. I know your heart has much to say for your new wife.
fine writing, fine rhythm fine wording equals a fine poem. love this one, FredPeyer.
Thanks Kevin, but I'm not Fred. Though I'm sure he'll be here soon.
Great poem! I know I've been listening but I haven't been bitten by the writing bug today! lol But this is another fine poem, AP! Enjoyed it!
Patience Christina, and listen to your heart. Trust me, it's there.
When I read this poem, the song "listen to your heart" came up to my mind. Nice writing.
The Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers tune. Yes, love that song. And in much the same way, the inner voice in your heart or your muse can inspire you to put down in words what your heart has said. Thanks for reading m&m.
Nice to be driven , I understand the creative urge .... good poem AP

Yes we all have words within us and to be able to put them down is a wonderful form of release. Good write AP.
Goldie, I'm sure you feel as do I, those words will not stay inside. They always find a way out. Thanks for reading.
