She Is Greater Than My Heart

John Snowdon

She is greater than my eager heart

Or any thoughts I have on self or art

And I alone cannot escape

On her breath I sit and wait

For she is deeper than my soul

While I am fractured she is whole

And chiefly ingrained within all I write

And the author of every sleepless night.

And like the wind which waves her hair

She is everywhere, she is nowhere.
