Litterbug Litterbug, Shame On You

Accidental Poet

Litterbug Litterbug, Shame On You

Take a look around

And tell me what you see

Can you see the ground?

Is it as clean as it should be?

The strongest pull of guilt

On your conscience a big tug

As you carelessly toss your trash

Don’t you feel like a Litterbug?

Remember the old limerick

“Litterbug Litterbug, shame on you”

You barely gave it a thought

And now the Litterbug is you

Not all that hard

To hold onto that trash

Till you get to where you’re going

And in the rubbish you can stash

You see the “NO LITTERING” signs

But you don’t really care

You say it’s not your problem

Until one day it holds your stare

A global responsibility

We all must do our part

Use a little common sense

And think with your heart

We belong to the Earth

Not the other way around

Please remember this BEFORE

You toss your trash on the ground

It's sad people turned the world into this. If we move onto another planet because of global warming or litter the same thing will just happen to that planet. 🙁

It's the mindset of the people that needs to change. Too many people are too self-centered to think about what's best for the world as a whole. Thanks for reading and commenting.

This is a very good message that needs to be said, but I believe it is wrong to say (not saying you're saying this of course!) that everyone was responsible for global warming equally. There were scientists paid off by industries to cover it up, those who truly release the CO2 within the atmosphere. This is a problem of politics, all linking to the corruption by special interests and lobbyists.

      • Accidental Poet

Just so you know, when I write something of this nature, it's not meant to apply to everyone as guilty. I try to write it as a "you know who you are" type of message. And you're right, industries are a big part of the problem. But my poem is mainly directed at the people who just throw trash out the window of a car or walking down the street and dropping the trash wherever they are. Thanks for reading and your comment PB. ; )

Yeah, I agree it's the people who need to change. Where I live we have people "adopt a mile" of the highway and it's their responsibility to clean up their section of highway. But if there weren't littering we wouldn't have to do that in the first place. Mindsets need to change, like people are saying. Great poem and thanks for sharing!

        • Accidental Poet

Yes, we have "Adopt a mile" here too. But they have inmates from the local correctional facility out there picking up, and that's just along the side of the highways. Thanks for reading and your comment Christina.

So true AP, people just don’t seem to care anymore.

            • Accidental Poet

Thanks Goldie. Some people do care but feel helpless as yet another uncaring person drops their trash out the window of a car. It's so aggravating.

Oh yes, seeing the town, especially after Friday night or Saturday night, before the cleaners come round! Terrible mess!

If each individual would hold themselves accountable, this problem would take care of itself. Thanks for reading and your comment orchi.

Great message AP! Something I find very aggravating is that after somebody dumps something beside the road, other people start dumping at the same place and within a short time there is a mountain of trash. So instead of helping to solve the problem by cleaning up, they make it worse. Don't even want to get started on the beach!
Hawaii being a tourist location, the Govt. is making a big effort to keep everything clean, but it is a losing battle.
You are absolutely right that the only way to change the mindset of people is to start early with young children.

                • Accidental Poet

True Fred. With some people, if they see others doing it then they figure they can get away with it too. "What the hell, right? Sure, toss your trash on the side of the road, its not like it matters". But what ignorant people don't understand is that it does matter. It all adds up. Thanks for reading and your compliment/comment Fred.

Thanks AP. I try my best to not be a litterbug! It's amazing how long it takes for a diaper to degrade!

                  • Accidental Poet

A diaper? OK WC, I'm not going there. LOL Thanks for the read. ; )

                  • myself and me

Driving along the road, saw the white plastic bags hanging on the fences, it is so ugly. Thank you AP for the effort.

Yikes , exactly, this is among my personal pet peeves I really hate litterbugs especially one ones who litter within a few steps from a trash can

                    • Accidental Poet

And it happens everywhere, all the time. Thanks for the read and your comment Bill. I appreciate it.
