Mythic?? (Or the meaning of poetry)

Seeker

Mythic?? (Or the meaning of poetry)

Alone, skin seared but sodden, drifting free

on Stygian rills mid steamy marish mud

that fleetly ebb to the wide open sea

My dinghy follows and must somehow scud

else this bled plain becomes my deathly home

Has this tale ample pathos to capture

the woe that fills life's tragic, noble tome?

Does any poem yield a true rapture?

So, knowing life is thea'tre, but in codes

the poet seeks a verse alive with meaning

Unknown to him a secret lies in odes

These writs disdain and laugh at doom's keening

The light of Cadmus is so very bright!

It coaxes mirth to ease death's ghastly blight

  • Comment from author about the poem: There are a couple of words in the first stanza that are not contemporary. I invite the reader to look them up. I hope I don't sound condescending here, It's certainly not my intent. One final edit today 11/21/17.

Super write Seeker, the meaning of life can be found in many poems but they need a lifetime to read. My laughter will continue for a while more.
