Russian Rulette

Syd

You could be driving your car, or in your armchair having a snooze

Partying with friends, popping pills in twos

You've got to check out someday, if only how you could choose

Live your life health consciously, exercise and eat your five a day

You're going to die at the end anyway, play the game your way

Choose what's important, have drive in your soul

Materialistic possessions aren't my lifes goal

Politics, propaganda, sex and TV

Pull the wool over your eyes, make you think you are free

People die every day, if only how they could choose

Death is all around us, it just don't always make the news

Each life individual, each moment unique

Spend your time wisely. Question the treasures you seek

I have a good friend and that friend had a son

He was searching the dark web for sleeping pills and now he is gone

Thought he was taking diazepam, so he took one

Instead he was taking fentanyl and now he is gone

So choose your priorities wisely, choose what matters most

Don't end up like my friends son

Twenty years old, dieing from an opiate overdose

A talented musician, making his own songs on YouTube is what he loved most

Now he's in heaven, partying with the holy ghost

Stay off the dark web, question the urges you get

Popping pills from internet is like playing Russian Rulette

    Syd,
    Thank you for this powerful
    message! It's so close and
dear to my heart... I will
    definitely impart! A subject
    of poignant interest!
For me, it reads like a
    prayer that I will pray
    every day with the hope
it will not fall on deaf ears!

Of course, legal medicines are valid. Even with them we have to take the correct dose.
A sad write of a life hardly begun. Somehow poisoned his system, - for the next 'high' or whatever?

    • Syd

The poor lad thought he was going to have a restful night\'s sleep as he was due to be up early for work the next day. I don\'t believe he was taking the pill for a high. My very close friend (his father) found him dead the next day. It took almost a year to get the results of the toxicology report. Never have I known a more horrible thing happen to a nicer person. Thanks for reading Orchidee

I see, Syd. I understand not all pills are taken for 'highs'. A tragic event.

      • Syd

It truly was. His father will never get over it.

        Take care - Syd

Sorry - my corny joke seemed a bit much. I'm not very good at 'black humour'! I've deleted it now.

          • Syd

No worries Orchidee, I'm an easy going person and very hard to offend. I just thought I'd give a few more details of what happened as it was only last year and he was good kid, very talented and loved by everyone.

          • Fay Slimm.

A powerful warning Syd - - there is much to be said for living "health consciously" and not trying our luck. Such a sad end for your friend's son.

            • Syd

Hi Fay. Yeah a sad ending indeed. It was the same drug which killed the singer Prince. It has swept the US and is responsible for thousands of deaths and is now appearing in the UK. I know I have done some stupid things in my time but this drug which he mistakenly took is an instant death sentence. More awareness is needed.

Thank you for your feedback - Syd

Very strong and powerful write, the dark web is so dangerous.

              • Syd

Thank you Goldfinch, yes it certainly is.
