It seems like a lifetime ago since we first met, but it's only been four years, my 30th birthday - a party I'll never forget
My friend Jannette asked if a man I'd never met could come to my party, his name is Dave. Ok if you vouch for him then that's fine by me, the rest as they say is history
The 18 year age gap between us made no difference. The things we had in common made us click, from life's troubles to music, even politics
You spoke of the death of your partner from alcohol addiction, I told you too how my mother was battling the same terrible affliction
You offered advice, some of which I chose not to take and when my mother died I realised that not taking that advice was a terrible mistake
Over the years you've changed me as person for the better, from the inside out. Opened my eyes to what's important, shown me what life's all about
You are definitely one of a kind. A unique human being. Giving wallets full of cash to homeless people is the most generous thing I've ever seen
You listened to my troubles no matter how trivial they could seem, but what was around the corner none of us could have ever forseen
The death of your son was such a tragic event that should not happen to anyone, and still you found the strength, the stength to carry on
From your generosity, good nature and determination. You're a model human being, you're such an inspiration
If anything ever happened to you I don't know how I'd cope. I'd be like a climber loosing his grip with no safety rope
If the unspeakable ever happens I'd do all that I can. I'd watch over Jannette and your daughter, at your funeral I'd play The Smiths - Charming Man
One things for certain, up in heaven you wouldn't have to wait. You'd have a VIP pass. You'd be straight through the gate
I wrote this simple poem as a tribute.
From one human being to another Dave I love you mate, friend & brother xxx

Beautiful. Refreshing to see someone get this kind of recognition while they are still alive. Most people these days are only realised retrospectively. You have a good soul Syd
Thank you Drewp. I know what you mean. Yeah he deserves the recognition, he's a top bloke.
And thanks again...I'm far from perfect but I like to think that my heart is in the right place.
