'Midst the seven deacons chosen

Stephen, he among them one

Man full of faith and the Spirit

Holy fire in him was lit

Sharing in ministering

Widow's food distributing

 

Though seemed menial service they

Full of the Spirit each day

And full of wisdom, they stewards

Taught they true with wholesome words

Stephen full of faith and powwer

Ministry did sure flower

 

For he did great wonders, sharing

Christ, and miracles bringing

To the people, though some up rose

To dispute with him, they chose

Yet not able to resist

All his message did consist [of]

 

Brought to appear before council

He did fare excellent well

Looking on him there they did see

Face as of an angel, he

Did show, bright God's glory blazed

He showed gospel, whole, unfazed

 

So through much words, many Scriptures

He showed how God, He confers

Graces on people, salvation

Open to all, each nation

His plan wrought through Christ His Son

he the Saviour for each one

 

But they turned, and cut to the heart

Opposed him in every part

Stephen stoned, though prayed forgiveness

Devotion ne'er faltered, yes

Holy martyr as he died

Saw God's glory, Christ beside [God]

 

Fill us with your Spirit, as they

Deacons served you, we do pray

Move us from all earth-bound longings

May we rise on eagle's wings

Grant us your wisdom, power

Inspire, energise each hour
