A FEW COUPLETS

Michael Edwards

She never signed at his request;

her hands were innocent of ink.

His actions were applauded

yet not a word was heard.

On sparkling sun-washed sandy shores

she read a crimson covered book.

She wished him well in faltering tones

her nervous charm so well exerted.

Always plan for tomorrow

and yesterday becomes but a memory.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Not rhyming - could even be presented as one liners. Let me know if you have favourite. The drawing is from a series of line drawings done for Christmas cards.

Food for thought in some of these clever couplets Michael - love the final one about looking forward. Great work.

Thanks so much Fay - a challenge - I've not seen you write any - go on give it a go - with your skills I just know they will be great. Mind you I don't sit down and write them as I do a poem - they come to me from time to time and when I have enough I publish.

Good writes and pic Michael. The second one is my favourite.
      Here's my version of it:
      'His words were booed
Cos he turned them all into song' (caterwauling). lol

      • Michael Edwards

        His words were booed
        they were all poo pooed.

        Cheers Orchi.

Love the season-appropriate drawing, Michael. I favor the fourth couplet, for the tender story it portrays.

Great set of couples! I’m particularly drawn to the first! Semblance of innocence and independence!
