Desiring Darkness

Leaking Light

I need more.
I'm hungry for a story that the past can't bring me.
I realize now how sheltered I was.

Simple plots, quick resolutions, mere minutes long.
It's not enough anymore, it no longer fits who I am.
I've changed.

I need intense ideas, something to make me feel.
Maybe even something that can make me cry.
Anything to release the pent up emotion behind the blandness that's consumed me.

I need darkness.
And after I get it and soak it in for a while,
Maybe the light won't burn so much.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Welp, this is my first poem here. It doesn't rhyme, as I've learned over the years that poetry doesn't always have to(though it makes me worry whether or not this will be considered a poem at all, you decide). Anyways, this poem is about my realization that in later years I've taken more to TV shows and stories that have more substance to them. I look back on what I used to watch, and while I still find it enjoyable, it doesn't give me the same feeling as it used to. Nowadays I'm more drawn to shows with slightly more complex plots, something that will push the boundaries and play with my emotions. Not deadly serious, but more so than other shows. Something to make me think and feel rather than just occupy my time. As for the ending, it's referring a bit to my mental state; Depression. With it, sometimes bright, happy, simple shows can start to hurt. Seeing fictional characters get everything while you're still stuck just doesn't feel good. Sometimes the best thing to do is take a break from it, because while a sad show won't make you feel better, a happy show can make you feel worse. Depending on the person of course.

Good write. That darkness will suffocate you where the light will show you the way.
