Forgotten
He forgets something every day
A favorite book a favorite face
Recalled well in times gone passed
Now forgotten when he’s asked
Many attempts to find the answer
Fail to excise the mental cancer
Until again the mind works well
Recalling facts so easy to tell
And for a time all is good
When navigating his mental neighborhood
With the houses in their places
And occupied with familiar faces
Then again his mind freezes
And the thief steals and seizes
Taking from the memories stored
Familiarity and facts galore
Some days he endures the storm
And finds himself lost and torn
Somewhere between the new and old
With his disease unrelenting and cold

Thanks orchidee. I appreciate your comment.
Very sad, but brings to mind the daily struggles of someone fighting Dementia or Alzheimer's (which my adoptive mother passed from). Thanks for sharing WC.
Yes, this poem is very sad. I struggled whether or not to share it.
this poem evekes so much empathy in me. Ive seen the damage done and (as we all should) I fear the damage to come...good thought provoking write on a subject that I fear eventually will effect all of us...peace
