What is Life?

Goldfinch60

What is life?

I sit and wonder,

Wonder what it means.

I have lived it for many years,

What have I done with it?

Have I used it well,

Or paved my path with mistakes?

I look back and ponder,

I am at this moment,

Happy with my lot,

With the occasional sadness.

Could I have been different?

Of course I could,

I had choices,

And am happy with the ones I chose.

What if?

The most profound question,

We all say it

But what if, does not apply,

As this is where I am,

And can do nothing about it.

So I just sit and wonder,

Wonder what it means,

What is life.

What is life, what is our purpose, why are we here.....
These are the deep questions we all ask ourselves at some stage in our life. Very few find the answers, for the rest of us I guess we have to wait until we cross over.
    Love your poem, Goldie!

Thank you Fred. Yes we will find the answers when we 'cross over'. See you there, but not yet eh?

Hi Fred. Maybe what I put below may help? In me mad moments - I'm here for pork pies and sherries, nothing else! heehee.

A good write Gold. You're a 'good man'. When some say this to me, I feel a heart-warming.
Meanwhile - life is not a bowl of cherries. It is a plate of pork pies and many glasses of sherry! heehee.

‘Fraud not Orchi, life is a glass of Rioja or Laphroaig- WITHOUT WATER!!!!

I reckon you know what is life, with your Christian beliefs. it seems a 'religious answer' but we can only understand life fully with a spiritual plane, and beliefs included, I feel. We're not in the dark, though have times of darkness. But we have the Light of life in Jesus!

          • Goldfinch60

We sure do shave The Light in many forms.

Thank you for the poem and for Kathleen Ferrier - I grew up with her in the house singing Scottish ballads (records not in person!) ...... No one I have ever known (in the States) knows of her.

            • Goldfinch60

Thank you Lorna, I too know those ballads. Those in the States are missing a superb singer.

              Thank you Santita, much appreciated.

We all wonder about this dont we. So many what if's and other unanswerable questions. Maybe you can judge yourself by the regard in which others hold you. The people you think are worthy people.... do they hold you in such esteem.. just a thought.

Any how 'what is life' somebody way back when said "life is what happens to you when you're busy doing something else" (john Lennon - i wasn't a fan of his but that statement is quite profound).
Another great piece from you G.

Thank you da, yes I knew that John Lennon quote and you are write it is meaningful.

I think we all wonder that but you said it out loud. Wonderful write, GF!

                • Goldfinch60

                  Thank you Christina, most kind.
