If You Only Knew
In the far off reaches of your mind
A memory rarely thought of
A boy from Massachusetts
With you he fell hopelessly in love
He once left a letter in your school locker
A confession of love so true
Of how his heart whispers
"Oh Sharon, how I love you"
Now many years have past
And your many miles away
He gazes upon crimson sunset
Still thinking of you today
He contemplates your reaction
Upon learning his love still strong
So many years you've owned his heart
What kind of love holds on so long?
Would you raise an eyebrow?
On your face a look of surprise
Maybe on your heart, the slightest of pull
Just a hint of emotion in your eyes
But it's all just wishful thinking
"Oh Sharon, how I love you"
And how might he react?
If you only knew

A lovely but sad write - much enjoyed.
Thanks for reading Michael. Fortunately, sad is of only one view point among other views. I see it from a point of view where I was the receiver of a Heavenly gift.
A fine write AP.
Thanks orchi.
Your longing is fully felt. The heart of the boy still echos in the man.
Thanks Heather. There are many who've commented on my writes for Sharon on here and other sites. Some have found it very hard to understand how I can have such a positive feeling looking back at my first love. Not easy to explain, but that's the impact that Sharon had on me over the years. We were both 10 years old (1967) in the 5th grade, and she never knew how I felt until I found out that she (at 14) and her family would be leaving for Los Angeles in 1971. Sure, I cried when I found out, but I got over it and just was happy that she was in my life for those 3 1/2 years. And the effect she had on me has never been matched by anyone else since.
Your beautiful poem made me think, AP. I guess many of us carry in our hearts and/or mind the memories of our maybe first love and that age-old question 'what if?' You expressed this so well.
But there is also that expression 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' which begs the questions if you would still love her this way if you would have stayed together.
Thanks Fred. I actually have a poem, "What If..." to post. And would we have stayed together? We never even dated, but if we had a relationship, who knows Fred? I would have made sure that she knew she was free to do what she feels is best for her, while still knowing that she is the love of my life and I would always love and respect her (which I did tell her in the letter I put in her school locker.
Loved reading this, AP, your work will make everyone reminisce all the way to the day when we fell in love for the first time. Think I must of been 8 when I was being attacked by loves conformity , I can't remember her name but the feeling I still remember to this day. I'm quite a prolific love poem writer and it's always good to read others write them too, but with a touch of class obviously, just like you have done right here. a tenderly written piece about love, well written, AP.
Kevin, I'm on the verge of blushing. Thank you for your up lifting compliment.
AP,
I know we’ve discussed
your love for Sharon in
the past. An everlasting
love! I’m so happy you
wrote this poem for her!
I enjoyed the read and Kris
Kristofferson very much!

Thank you Laura for reading and your compliment. I wish she could know how she inspires me so positively.
You’re welcome.
I also wish she could...
with all my heart!
Thank you.
Love is love and this one can't be spoiled by anything now...... and maybe it's the same for her! It's there for you to hold on to no matter what bad things may happen......... maybe better than real life! Plus loved the music AP.
Thank you Lorna for your kind comment. The song? One of my favorites, always with her on my mind.
This is beautiful AP
