Crow Says...

Jabberwocky

What's the crow saying daddy
Tell me what he said?

He said he'll eat your eyeballs
Out of your pretty head!

What's he saying now daddy
Tell me what he said?

He's saying he loves your heart
And your blood of deepest red!

What's he saying now daddy
Tell me what he said?

He's saying his chicks are happy
Yes all of them are fed

What's he saying now daddy
Tell me what he said?

He's saying his wife is hunting
Into the west she sped

What's he saying now daddy
Tell me what he said?

He's saying whispers lie
And tears are always shed!

What's he saying now daddy
Tell me what he said?

He's whisp'ring there are monsters
Be careful where you tread!

What's he saying now daddy
Tell me what he said?

He's saying the past is gone girl
Yes all of it is dead!

What's he saying now daddy
Tell me what he said?

He said it's very late
And time you were in bed!

  • Comment from author about the poem: For my 7yo daughter. It's a game we play, when she hears a crow caw she asks me what it's saying. We've done it for a long time. I make up stuff, scary stuff some times as she likes that, silly stuff, whimsical stuff, some deep stuff too. She told her mum one day, and her mum insisted I couldn't speak crow and it was all nonsense. She told me , then asked me "what did the crow say?" She is loyal and fierce and I love her.

This is sort of a love poem between you and your daughter - really sweet and wise and well written J........

I added two verses. Yes it is I guess. We play lots of verbal games.
      Thanks
