the old enfeebled
are seated
in a quadrangle of chairs
placed in the centre of the dayroom
old schizophrenics
and dementias
…this is a dead
parrot…
disembodied discussion
about a prone norwegian blue
fills the ward
from end to end
through overhead speakers
today’s In-Charge
is a monty python fan
the rest of us
better learn to be

One of the unforgettable sketches.
(My wife has dementia and it is worsening day by day).
Sorry to hear that GF. It's a hard road.
I really love this... I'm trying to write a book about the construct of mental health.
I like poems that make me feel before I make sense of the picture.
Cheers, Sylvia. Good luck with the book. It's such a complex field - history and present, treatment and abuse.
Glad you enjoyed the piece.
Frank,
This is a great one!
The euphemisms in the
“Dead Parrot Sketch” are
phenomenal...as are
Monty Python!
