It started in a notebook

As a story recorded there

A mystery composed

With a labyrinth there prepared

 

On Broadway it had played

Starring a dapper Dan

And after each show he’d bow

To the adoration of his fans

 

A full-length movie was produced

And I bought a ticket too

The show won an academy award

And received the best reviews

 

It also won an emmy

For its wonderful song

Appreciating every single note

And lyric that went along

 

He bought a spiral notebook

So he could write things down

Though he was never famous

and was never really around

 

Of all his later works

Recognition was never sought

Though a few insiders would say

He's the best seller that we got
