Franks Psychiatry 4 #46: a h.r.t. fan

Frank Prem

a staff nurse mentioned today
in passing

 it's been sixteen years ...

since they took out
her ovaries and uterus

... and all that

it was just a conversation
about a fan she'd misplaced
and how she needs it every day
every hour sometimes
when the flushes rise

she woke in the middle of the night
last week
to find herself
saturated
pillow sheets and nightwear

the doctors have told her
that's the way it has to be
unless she restarts hormones

but she doesn't want that
they don't feel safe to take
and she's had lumps removed already

she knows a friend
a woman
who's been having flushes
for over thirty years
and probably will forever

if anything
is forever

meanwhile
she wants her fan
now
and if one of the male staff
has hidden it
there'll be hell to pay

sometimes

it gets pretty hot around here

My wife had hot flushes as she was going through the meno pause, many a time I was woken in the night as the bedclothes were thrown from the bed with th the exclamation “I am so hot!!!” (She doesn’t swear but if she did that would have been the appropriate time).

      It's a pretty rough time.

      Frank,
      This is a hot posting!
If that male staff has hidden that fan, he better give it back or there will be hell to pay!
He’ll pay for it if he’s one of the ones that may be prone to hot flashes(flushes)!

I’ve never experienced them but a friend of my has and she tells me they’re unbearable...especially at night!

It's a pretty big deal for those that experience them, I've been told (in no uncertain terms).
