Do You Know?

MissRight223

Do you know how it feels,

how it feels to gaze,

how it feels to stand,

with your heart heavy with a feeling so grand?

Do you know how it feels,

how it feels to hear,

how it feels to let your emotions pool,

with your heart carrying a burden so cruel?

Do you know how it feels,

how it feels to smell,

how it feels to hide,

with your hands down at your side?

Do you know how it feels,

how it feels to touch,

how it feels to be kind,

as you stand, being so blind?

I know how it feels,

how it feels to gaze,

how it feels to stand,

when her feelings are so grand.

I know how it feels,

how it feels to hear,

how it feels to let my emotions pool,

while her heart is in a state so cruel.

I know how it feels,

how it feels to smell,

how it feels to writhe,

when all I can do is stand by her side.

I know how it feels,

how it feels to touch,

how it feels to try,

try to stop my heart from breaking as I listen to my mother cry.

  • Comment from author about the poem: My grandfather recently died, and when my mother seems to recall a precious memory to her, she begins sobbing. It breaks my heart that I am unable to do anything besides rub her back soothingly and hug her.

Very emotive and well written words, being with her is the right thing to do for both of you.
