When everyone realised.

Mollie Brown

Norma Jeane Mortenson, that was your name;

A typical girl with dreams and wishes,

People saw you as one big stupid game,

Spreading rumours like you're promiscuous.

You had your ups and you had your downs,

But you never gave up on your own life,

It soon came the day when you stopped your frowns,

As you got prepared to be called a wife.

You were adored by men and symbolised,

For what you call the wrong reason to hate;

It soon came when everyone realised,

you wasn't just a blond bombshell to date.

And still to this day it gets very tiring,

To explain to people that you weren't just a Marilyn.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Ever since I was young, I've always had some type of obsession with Marilyn. Not in the creepy form but in the way she lived. From her childhood, family, lovers, all upto her death. She was made to seem like such an open book but she was in fact a mystery. Even the way she died. She came from nothing and made something of herself, that is deeply admirable and respected. To live a life, where in years after you die people still talk and hang art of you on their walls is simply amazing.

    A fitting tribute to the real Norma-Jeane. Are we more enlightened these days? Were our concepts of the famous so superficial in those days really?
    Thought provoking writing from you.

    Yes - poor little thing - she didn't want to be an "object" but didn't have enough self-confidence ....
