Early Awakening

Early Awakening

I awoke at the early hour

Soon after the sandman came

There before the dawn was up

And the animals that played

The day there was exciting and new

And players were soon there

The timid slowly coming too

Active everywhere

Squirrels scurried on the ground

As ducks flew overhead

The sun rose in the sky

And the owl went to bed

The play there was spectacular

And was improvised

The script there too restricting

For the world so alive

I was there as a poet

To write pretty words

But got lost that early day

Counting all the pretty birds
