JIM REEVES (1923 - 1963) was born in Galloway Texas
the youngest of TEN children ~ his DAD died when he was
ONE ! His Mom was a METHODIST and when he became a
touring Country Singer he promised his Mom he would always
include a Gospel Song "HYMN TIME" in his program and he
always did. He started off as a Baseball Player (Pitcher) and
obtained a Sports Scholarship at the University of Texas ! He
also studied elocution and when he was invalided out of Pro-
Baseball he became an Announcer on The Louisiana Hayride.
He had an opportunity to Sing and had hits with BIMBO and
MEXICO JOE ! He signed for RCA Victor and Chet Atkins was
his Manager "JIM please sing Lower ~ Slower ~ Nearer the
mike !" They developed the NASHVILLE SOUND ~ Country &
Crossover. Jim rose to fame but was always involved in Church
& Witness. All his Gospel Albums are very very sincere ! He
died in a plane crash (self piloted) in JULY 1963 and his Wife
~ Mary released his backlog of recordings including DISTANT
DRUMS (1967) Jim is still as popular ~ over 50 years later ~
with Geriatric Line Dancers. I have spoken to Stars (such as
George Hamilton III and Boots Randolf ~ Sax) and they all
speak very highly of Jim. When I give talks ~ on Jim Reeves
to Seniors I always include his very sublime recording of I'd

A fine write Brian. My mum liked his songs! There's too much vanity now. It makes us sick sometimes, almost physically (as in corny, cringy, etc)! Or stars just become tiresome.
THANKS STEVE ~ Pleased you appreciated it ~ My MUM likes him (his diction is perfect !) and My Maternal GMA has all his LPS which she lends me for my talks ! Today's STARS are far too SYCHOPHANTIC I feel from the clips I have seen that JIM was more like Daniel O'Donnell (he sings I'd rather have JESUS !) and that the audience is much more important than the money ! THANKS FRIEND ~ When I was born(1983) Jim had been dead 20 years ~ but my Mum & her Mum played him a lot and he was always featured on Country Radio Programmes ~ There was something different about his recordings (there are over 200 songs !) perfect diction and orchestration ~ each song told a story and his Spiritual Recordings ~ like the one I posted had more sincerity than most other stars ! Daniel O'Donnell is similar and he has done a great Tribute Album to JIM ~ Pleased you enjoyed it BRIAN !
