Not a Conversation

Jo March

You know, I haven’t talked to you for a long time

But you simply did not want to talk… I can see that…

Do you remember the last time we talked?

You kept turning away every time I started speaking

I can understand that you didn’t want to

There are times when I want to hide inside myself too

And think and dream and sit alone just like you now

I guess it is just not the right moment to talk

I have lost myself in the ringing silence

Then found my heart between the petals of your soul

All this time, I have been meaning to ask you

Could you share my loneliness with me today?

But today if you still don’t want to talk

You can just listen to me and I won’t really mind

Though I am tired of these one-sided conversations

It is almost like talking to myself

If you don’t want to listen, I could wait as long as you want

You don’t have to share my cup of loneliness if you don’t want to

I just want you to know I don’t believe in unfinished sentences… I never did

Please put a period and then it would not be that meaningless.

But now I see that you are not against listening to me

And yes, I am nervous but I will talk

You know, sometimes I feel like I hear you

Yes… when you are a million miles away from me

Distances have become so negligible

You and I can hear each other at a moment’s notice

The power of thought is simply magical

I don’t have to even know where you are or what you are doing

I want you to listen because today I tried to hold on to my dream

You know, I dreamed that I got lost in the libraries of centuries

Books of all ages with dusty legends opened for me

And you gave me the code that helped me read each one

Like through a crystal prism I saw the annals of history

I could read every single word whether it was in ancient Latin or Greek

My eyes opened and I don’t even know how

But somehow I could understand the most ancient of epics without translation

Together I think we will finally read the most important epic of all

It is the text I have looked at only once

But perhaps you realize why it is so important to me and to you

It will help you and me go back to the very beginning

So today, I wanted you to tell me why my dreams disappear

Perhaps you don’t know the answer to my strange question

Yet somehow, I feel like you know and just don’t want to tell me

Perhaps my dreams disappear simply because they are not meant to come true

Today, you have won over your unwillingness to listen

You have opened my eyes and all nightmares abandoned me

Time and distance have become completely negligible

Just read to me from your golden script and I will hear…

You know… I will…
