Great Owl

Great Owl

I spotted an owl today

In the hot summertime

Where he perched awake

With his eyes open wide

He sat there a bit

Perched high up in the tree

Awakened by daytime pests

Around him noisily

A mockingbird dove at him

Where he perched that day

And the owl flew from the tree

Silently away

Come nighttime he gave a hoot

To all there was around

To warn the little birds

Of his nighttime hunting ‘round

All knew his special eyes

With vision into the night

And they tried all they could

To hide and stay alive

Squirrels and rabbits ran

Fearing his talons too

Having caught his eye

While In a hunting mood

Very magical wc....... I have only heard owls but never seen one...... they are supposed to be portends of things to come so maybe better not to see!

Thanks, Lorna. Owls are nighttime creatures and not very active during the day. Consider yourself lucky to have heard one.
