Recipe for a poem
One cup of words from your heart, will set you off to a pretty good start.
Add a fist full of tears,
that have aged over the years;
leaving traces of valuable insight,
with the knowledge that it all turned out right.
Stir in a few dark days of rain,
along with a rainbow that shows you the gain.
Add the love you found,
when strangers became friends who stayed around.
They are essential for that moment in time,
when your poem becomes an existential rhyme.
Throw in that foe,
who taught you, blow by blow,
that you will always stand tall,
and find a way to over come it all.
Let it simmer awhile,
until your words come together
with rhythm and style.

A clever idea carried off with polish and panache. Are there poets without pain in their soul?
Pain and hurt seems to be a great motivator for us poets doesn't it.
But oh what sweet release is this therapeutic poetic outlet... i don't think i'd survive without it. How about you.
Are there poets without pain in their soul? I think everyone has their tears, but, I for one, am glad that not all poetry is dark and gloomy. So much more fun when there is a variety of poetry covering all the human conditions. I thought about this very thing when I was writing this poem. And personally, I do, much more, prefer lighthearted poetry. Thank you for reading my poem and commenting.
This made me smile so big! So very true.
You have truly written the recipe for the perfect poem.
Thank you. I'm glad it brought you a smile. And thank you for telling me that.
Jane,
A delicious recipe from a great chef 👩🍳!
I enjoyed the desert! Thank you for the treat!

Thank you for reading it, and taking the time to leave a comment.
A very perceptive look at what makes a good poem Jane and one to which all serious poets can relate - - I love the suggestion of simmering all in the pot before writing. The penultimate stanza has to be my personal favourite. Great read.
