Tune: Ach Gott Und Herr

('Strengthen for service, Lord, the hands')

John 15 v.7-11

**********

If you abide in me, Christ said

And by His words you be led

If His words do in us abide

Promises to us confide[d]

Promise that we shall ask what we

Will, and it shall be done, see

Herein His Father [is] glorified

Your prayers shall not be denied

'Tis not for our glory or pride

We ask, but as we reside

In Christ the vine, the branches we

So shall productive fruit be

Christ's desire that we bear much fruit

Nor our wants, nor what us suits

But bearing fruit we disciples

Of Christ shall be, He us calls

As the Father, He Christ has loved

So Christ has loved us, beloved

Continue in my love, He says

And learn daily of His ways

If we do His commandments keep

We be obedient sheep

And shall true in His love abide

His Spirit in us reside

Even as Christ the commandments

Of His Father kept, true sense

So He abides in Father's love

Strengthened by the Spirit, dove

These things He spoke, that His joy may

Remain in us for alway

And that our own joy may be full

Even each one He does call
