Why did you do this?

ah353

You lock us into your world of fear

Padlock the door and there’s no escape

Like we are trapped in our own vision of hell

And someone we love is behind it all

one day when you didn’t get your own way

You lashed out like you would normally do

Pinned me against the wall

Screaming and shouting

Throwing anything you could my way

Your words hurt more than your fists

It’s just everyone saw the affect your fists had

I was just used to dealing with it by now

Until the blue flashing lights were seen

Outside our house again

The neighbours must have heard

Again mum protects you

She doesn’t want you to go to prison

She wants you to do well

Why do you do this to her?

Constantly breaking her heart

It would happen in fits and spells

One week we would almost look like a functioning family

Like a tv ad, where everyone smiles

If only people knew those smiles were a facade

The masks of illusion hide the scars underneath

The next week would be a blizzard of dispair

Yet there was one day

This day was different to the rest

A normal kick off with a different reaction

This time I wasn’t there

It wasn’t aimed at me

This time you went too far

And I couldn’t stop it

Anger flew from you

Violence wasn’t enough

You were plagued with emotions

And no one could stop you

This time you went for mum

You did the same routine

Shouting and screaming and throwing your fists

But this time you went to the kitchen

You opened the draw

And you chased her

Brother why did you do this?

We tried to help you through everything

I always supported you after all that you did to me

Now you’ve lost everything

A criminal record

Lost me as a sister, for the day you turned on our mother

You lost my respect

But the worst of all

Is you hurt the one person who will never turn her back on you

You might as well have stabbed her that day brother

Cause you broke her heart so much she’s barely living
