I want a love
A love that is kind
Love that is patience
One that is mine
Yours is controlling ,demanding
tearing me apart one piece at a time
I want a love
A love that is kind
You say you love me
But I have my doubts.
Your actions and words, tear me inside out.
What happened to the man that I thought I once knew
Was that a cover, a mask or a ruse.
I want a love
A love that is kind
Love that is patience
One that is mine
Yours is controlling, demanding
Driving me out of my mind
I want a love
A love that is kind
I wanted to love you
I really wanted to try
But you used my heart against me
Trying to make me do things, things I won't
What happened to the man I thought I loved
Was it a cover, a mask, a ruse
I want a love
A love that is kind
Love that is patience
One that is mine
Yours is controlling, demanding
Made me feel helpless and small
I want a love
A love that is kind

THANKS JENN ~ This is a very elegant poem ~ full of rhyme and rhythm and (for emphasis) the TITLE "I WANT A LOVE" repeated 6 times in 5 short verses. The subject is a lament ~ not so much about a Person (A Lover) but about the nature (quality) of LOVE you receive. You want (and have experienced) Love that is Kind ~ Patient ~ Just for You ~ you want to be LOVED nicely ! BUT the love you receive is ~ Controlling ~ Demanding ~ Rending ~ Maddening and Degrading ! Your cri de coeur is: "What happened to the Man ~ I thought I once knew ~ I thought I loved ~ Was it a Cover ~ A Mask ~ A Ruse ??? I'm the same age as you and many of us can emphasise with the AGONY & ECSTASY of Love ! Every blessing for the Future ~ Thinking of You ~ Your MPS Friend BRIAN (UK) Please check my Poem "Rose Garden for Angela" Yours B !
Thanks so much Brian. I really love your comments. They always make me think. Please continue to enjoy.
This is beautiful. It has a really nice rhythm, that emphasises the emotion behind the words.
I'm not usually a fan of repetition but it works so well in this poem.
Thanks Sophie. I wrote this poem a few months ago. After I broke up with someone.
And thought that I would share it.
