Faith Will Be Tested

ForeverJesus7

You know within your hearts.
You tell yourself for weeks,
"We are better.
We are the best.
We have a great leader".
You know the game's,
ins and outs.
You work and work,
tirelessly.
You strive to be the best.
Then the day comes.
You begin to get nervous.
You know that you,
have what it takes.
You know that you,
have done what it takes.
Yet, now you feel,
as though it is not enough.
Questions come,
into your mind,
before the game.
'Will I be good enough?
Will I choke?
Will I let my teammates down'
The game starts,
as you loose your focus.
You loose your momentum.
The team who was,
highly favored,
no longer has,
the upper-hand.
The score starts,
as seven to zero -
fourteen to zero -
twenty-one to zero.
By half time,
you are down -
twenty-eight to zero.
The locker room floods with silence.
You rock back and forward,
on the bench,
with your hands folded,
together covering your mouth,
filled with mixed emotions.
You have nothing left,
to think about.
So you remember last season.
You remember,
who brought you this far.
It was not you.
It was not the one captain.
It was not a group effort,
the practice,
or even the coach.
It was the trust,
that you put in God.
It was the faith,
you had in Jesus.
Then in the midst,
of a silent room,
You slowly stand up.
You boldly begin,
to say Psalm 23.
The Lord is my shepherd...
As you go on,
more people stand,
and quote the Psalm with you.
As hope is restored,
in the team,
you finish with a prayer.
You do not ask for a victory.
You ask for the will to win.
You ask for perseverence.
You ask for focus,
and a supernatural strength to play.
The half now starts.
You are now focused.
The unity of the team,
is once again set.
Your heart grows,
as the team finds it's courage,
and it's will.
Your opponent is showing,
no mercy,
but you persevere.
You scored twenty-eight,
unanswered points,
with fifteen seconds,
left in the game.
The score is tied,
and you are exhausted,
from holding off,
the other team.
Still, you have the ball.
then a supernatural strength,
comes over your team.
You kick a field goal.
Time expires,
and you win the game.
It will be known,
to everyone,
as one of the greatest,
Comeback games in history,
but you will simply,
remember it as,
a game you would have lost,
had you not,
called upon the Lord

  • Comment from author about the poem: I chose the subject of football due to the fact that I am a college football fan, and it won't be long before the season starts. However, I also chose to write about how we must always know to call upon the Lord even in our life's hardest moments. - I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4 - Persistence is key
