To whom this atheist preys

Edthepoet

Sometimes I pray
For armagedon
Once too many times a day
Other times I sit back and laugh imagining new beginnings..
Sometimes I pray
For absolution
Twice too many times a day
Other times I sit back and laugh imagining my reckoning

To whom this atheist prays
Is yet to be agreed
Between the depths of my consciousness and a never ending dream
I am yet to be shown what on earth this all means
I'm in no rush though I have to say honestly,
Currently I'm settled on a view from eastern philosophy, if I am god then that means god is me,
Does this still make me an atheist or do I now somehow believe?

How something so fickle can be the cause of so many brutal endings, will always be the root cause of my disbelief, or so I think..

Being brought up in a christian society will have influenced your outlook undeniably but .... Anyway the good side is christianity appears to teach basic good ethics.
Loads more versions of belief are around to toy with. I'm trying to get a hold on Buddhist thinking.
Quite apart from all that i think we humans have an inbuilt mechanism that cries out for something to pray to once we move away from mothers love. I don't understand it, i just accept it. A faith in an afterlife seems an inherrent part of being human too. I definately have that and do enjoy reading various non religious theories.
Only going to be one way to find out isn't there.

You got that spot on dusk. I got into Bhuddist philosophy at about 14/15, after finding a little book of Bhuddist quotes, I think that may explain a lot about my outlook on life. I'd recommend Alan Watts..there's a lifetimes worth of him on YouTube, you've probably heard of him already. A video called 'the beauty of nothingness' is one of my favourites.

Well, I'm 'biased'! See my hymn-poems, for example. Yet I should steer clear of Eastern stuff, and 'emptying the mind' things. We may open our minds to bad stuff as well as good stuff.

I respectfully disagree about steering clear of eastern thought. Bhuddism, Zen Bhuddism and Taoism are fascinating schools of thought. I'll be sure to look at your poems.

Thanks Ed. There's some wise teaching in Eastern things I agree, but I'm wary of 'emptying the mind' things - Eastern or from Western or wherever.

Just brilliant, so fresh. As ever word danced in front of me "do I now believe" was a great line. My friend your poetry is sublime, thank you for the inspiring rhymes.

This is such a kind piece of feedback Dan, really appreciated, thank you.

I love this Ed. I'm atheist, but I've also think that if there is a God, he comes from within. This is a great meaningful write. (Sometimes I write a load of bullshit but can tell there is some thought gone into this one)
