“I try to lure me into the abyss” : you know love is an abyss, but, like the rest of us, you willingly get near that abyss. “if you’ll be same as you look....” Trying to figure out the hidden person in the real partner. “light years away...” : that love seems too far to be realised or consumed. “So near and yet so far...” goes a saying. Self-doubt creeps in : is it real love or a passing obsession ?...
“But trust me, I hold a path that leads to you....” A feeling of certainty that you will reach communion with your lover.
“A silence that sings a comforting hymn....” A deliberate contradiction : a silence that sings... “But our worlds will never match...” : again, coming to terms with reality, with the realisation that the love will not be reciprocated. “The pull is enough to keep me apart....” another deliberate contradiction. A pull draws you near : this pull pushes you away... This is a magnet that repels. Like poles (in magnets) repel each other; opposite poles attract. “Nature contests us to sway away...” A wide-ranging statement that nature has decided not to make the relationship happen.
“Yet you make me strained
I’m burning in your waves.” A pull-push relationship, a one-sided one. You feel attracted but pushed away at the same time. Check out the English version of the French sonnet by Felix Arvers, the French poet. It is an impressive poem of unfulfilled love.
