From whence arrived the praying mantis?
From outer space, or lost Atlantis?
glimpse the grin, green metal mug
at masks the pseudo-saintly bug,
Orthopterous, also carnivorous,
And faintly whisper, Lord deliver us.
Back to Ogden Nash
From whence arrived the praying mantis?
From outer space, or lost Atlantis?
glimpse the grin, green metal mug
at masks the pseudo-saintly bug,
Orthopterous, also carnivorous,
And faintly whisper, Lord deliver us.

Comments2Just came across this witty little poem about mantis. I love the way it mixes humor, curiosity, and a dash of fear of these fascinating creatures. So playful and well written! Gave me a good chuckle.
Just read this poem and wasn't all that impressed. The part about "green metal mug at masks the pseudo-saintly bug" felt a bit forced, really didn't resonate with me. I guess it's just not my style of poetry. No offense intended.
