Autumn

Rainer Maria Rilke

 Next Poem

The leaves are falling, falling as if from far up,
as if orchards were dying high in space.
Each leaf falls as if it were motioning "no."

And tonight the heavy earth is falling
away from all other stars in the loneliness.

We're all falling. This hand here is falling.
And look at the other one. It's in them all.

And yet there is Someone, whose hands
infinitely calm, holding up all this falling.

Just read "Autumn" by Rainer Maria Rilke, such a beautiful poem... it's makes you remenic about life, death and everything between. Though, Im struggling to figure out who Rilke is referring to when he talks about "Someone". Is this God, nature, or something else entirely? Can someone enlighten me here? Because the poem hit me, and I want to understand it fully. Excuse my gramar, it's been sometime since school. Such deep words for a simple thing as leaves falling in autumn. Loved it!!!
