To A Child Dancing In The Wind

William Butler Yeats

 Next Poem

DANCE there upon the shore;
What need have you to care
For wind or water's roar?
And tumble out your hair
That the salt drops have wet;
Being young you have not known
The fool's triumph, nor yet
Love lost as soon as won,
Nor the best labourer dead
And all the sheaves to bind.
What need have you to dread
The monstrous crying of wind!

  • Just read "To A Child Dancing In The Wind" by Yeats. 'Monstrous crying of wind' really hit home.

      WOAH, THIS POEM REALLY DOES STIR UP SOME EMOTIONS! IT BRINGS BACK MEMORIES OF CAREFREE DAYS OF YOUTH, AND CLASHES THEM POWERFULLY WITH THE HARSH REALITIES OF GROWING UP. THE INNOCENCE OF CHILDHOOD CONTRASTING WITH LOSS AND FEAR IS SO BITTERSWEET, I'M HIT WITH NOSTALGIA AND MELANCHOLY AT THE SAME TIME. THIS IS BEAUTIFUL AND HEARTRENDING, A REAL REMINDER OF THE DUALITY OF LIFE.
