When lovely woman wants a favor,
And finds, too late, that man won't bend,
What earthly circumstance can save her
From disappointment in the end?
The only way to bring him over,
The last experiment to try,
Whether a husband or a lover,
If he have feeling, is, to cry!

Comments1I get the essence of what the poet is trying to convey but it didn't resonate deeply with me. The emotions seem a bit manipulated and it seems to fall into common stereotypes. Is there a historical context or was the poem playing into popular perceptions of the time? Hard for me to connect with this one.
