Machined Lives.

Goldfinch60

As our lives move forward in modern times

Machines are beginning to rule our lives.

The further we go forward

The more the computers aid us,

To make our lives progress faster.

But why do we need to move faster?

Surely life is there to be enjoyed.

We are getting led into a life of haste,

But do we have more time to ourselves?

No that does not happen,

We apparently need to be rushing elsewhere,

To where the machines take us.

What we need to realise

Is that the one thing

That machines cannot achieve, is compassion,

And that is the one thing

That will keep man ahead of the machines.

If man will only slow down

And think once more,

Think once more for themselves,

And bring that compassion to the world.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Are machines ruling our lives. The video is from The Canadiana Suite by Oscar Peterson, it was the first Peterson album that I bought back in the 1960's I have most of his recordings now.

A fine and true write Gold. We're dashing to the moon and beyond, literally. We've already reached the moon. We'll meet ourselves coming back before long.
Some don't stop at accidents even. Some may not know what to do (First Aid), but some carry on as if nothing happened, and someone is laying in the road, for example.

Thanks Orchi, yes we are dashing everywhere but for no real purpose.

I have very little time for those who will not help others as though they cannot see a problem.

      Andy,

The last two lines make a whole lot of sense. Sometimes I do think that these darn machines are doing their best to rule us. And who’s responsible for that? Not the machines...
      Humans are!
      I enjoyed the clip!
      Thank you for sharing.

      Love to Joyce and you!

Thank you Laura, of course humans are responsible but they just cannot see what they are causing the machines to do, I worked in computing before retirement and all we were doing was trying to make the machines do a faster job and we had to work fast to get them to improve, a never ending circle.

Thankfully in retirement I rush around writing poetry. LOL.

Thank you so kindly for your love to us both.

        Love to you as well

        Andy

          I don't know the future
          but I feel it.

          • Goldfinch60

The future cannot really be known, all we can do is live for the moment.

            • onepauly

sometimes we can live for the moment.
but usually where looking somewhere else

I dont believe you Goldfinch LOL. Somehow i don't see you as a fellah dashing around because some machine clicks your number or something. I know i don't - other than traffic lights. Generally i'm a rebel to machine world's expectations.

You may well be right, dashing around is no longer in my CV.

THANKS ANDY ~ You always speak a lot of sense to those of us who are still "growing up". The under 40's embrace the CYBER WORLD because we have been reared in it ! But it increasingly makes us dependent on it.I use the WEB instead of encyclopedias & dictionaries etc but in some way it is much less fun ! However there are positives like MPS ! We no longer write letters or get foreign stamps and emails are instant which increases the pace. I would love to sail to New Zealand instead of flying 3 weeks instead of 2 days ! Now with cyber conferencing I don't get an expenses paid trip to Heidelberg for a CHEMISTRY CONFERENCE Even in my short working lifetime (17 years) I have seen the pace of life (information / communication etc) triple and if I wasn't a Christian I would be stressed out. By the way ~ the pace of life in New Zealand seems much more sedate ~ so perhaps we will emigrate ! Love JAZZ PIANO and Oscar Peterson in particular ~ thanks for sharing. Its now Tuesday Morning in ROTORUA ! Angela is in the shower and sends her love ~ I'm catching up on MPS !
Yours (in NZ) BRIAN & ANGELA. Love & Blessings to JOYCE XXXX
