Tune: Unter Herrscher
('Come ye faithful, raise the anthem')
2 Corinthian 5 v.1-8
*********
For we know that if this body
Physical should dissolved be
'Tis a tent, for it encloses
Spirit and soul, each one knows
Yet we have from God a building
Our eternal residing
It be a house not made with hands
Nor made up of earthly lands
But a house in heaven eternal
For this we groan, for this call
Desiring to be clothed upon
By that given by God the Son
So being clothed, we shall not be
Disembodies spirits, see
For while in this earthly body
We do groan for liberty
That our mortality might be
Clothed with eternal life free
God has wrought, for He has prepared
Us for this, it shall be shared
With His people, for He also
Gives us His Spirit we know
As down payment, as the earnest
Of our future in Him blest
For we walk by faith, not by sight
Faith shows us His way, His light
So we are confident, willing
To be absent, everything
[Absent] From the body, and present be
With the Lord eternally

Living by sight is living by your five senses -
sight, taste, smell, touch, hearing."

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 878787. I have tried to explain it simply. A Bible commentary had some needed longer notes on this, e.g. Not that our soul and spirit need physical clothes, but 'clothed upon' is the way it is described.
