Such a strange day, in the open plan office where I worked the telephones hardly ever stopped - we had no telephone calls that afternoon.

Thanks UNCLE ANDY ~ It was even more eerie to be there ! The whole country was in shock and ground to a HALT ! Ive added a PICTURE and the Hymn AMERICA ~ Please revisit. Thanks BRIAN.

We may have had feelings or thoughts that we've never had before. I had this strange feeling that day of - is it the end of the world?

      • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks UNCLE STEVE ~ For over 2500 American Citizens it was. I've added a picture and the HYMN AMERICA AMERICA ~ Please revisit ~ Thanks BRIAN

Your poem reminds us we really don't have any control. I could feel how impressed you were, how innocent. Repeating Everything seemed normal works really well. Maggie

Thanks MAGGIE ~ Thanks for your encouraging comment. I guess if we are honest FATALISM does seem to prevail. And in the case of 9/11 (11th September 2001) there was no warning. I was in AMERICA and the was no conception of the greatest disaster AMERICA had ever experienced in her 240 year History. People claimed to "know" in retrospect but "none" in prospect ! It was in effect completely and literally "Out of the Blue". Repetition is in important in Poetry (as in Villanelles etc) and the thing I remember most was the NORMALLITY of the 10th of September 2001 and the ultimate Nationwide chaos & disbelief on 9/11 the following day. Yours BRIAN

We all will ever see those twin towers and their tragic downfall that terrible day - we know where we were and what we were doing because it was as this sonnet states so "out of this world"" and you being there was an added experience of what terror can happens out of the blue. Thanks Brian for the share of what folk must have going through on that shocking day.

          • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks FAY ~ It was indeed an awesome & unbelievable day. When you consider that only TWO civilians (Japanese Bomb) were killed in the USA in WW2 ~ To have 3000 people killed in one fatal Terrorist Attack was (and is) still beyond comprehension. Many Americans we spoke to felt scared & apprehensive ~ IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY ~ from an outside attack for the First Time. It paralysed the whole Country. Thanks for your comment ~ Yours as always BRIAN.

Thank you for this sonnet. We certainly did not know what was about to happen to us. Just a shared eerie feeling. Please check my poem. Thanks--Hugs to you and Angela!

Thanks for your comment CHRIS. It was bad enough for us ~ coming from Liverpool and having such an affinity with the USA. Some of the AMERICANS we visited could not stop weeping ~ they felt that through the iconic Twin Towers they had been personally violated. Having visited Ground Zero (2002) and the Memorial in NY recently one can detect the hurt is still there in every True American !
We loved your poem & have commented ~ OK ! Abrazos y Besos con Amor BRIAN 😎 y ANGELA 🧡

              Caro Amico Brian,
Un ricordo che non dimenticherò mai! Ricordando la perdita della mia amica è tanto dolorosa!
I will be at the memorial tomorrow to remember and honor my dear friend...Barbara! For me everything seemed normal the morning of ...till my colleague asked me to look out the window to see the plumes of smoke coming out of the first tower. We thought it was a “simple” fire until I saw the plane ramming into the second tower. We realized it was not a “simple” fire!
Nothing has ever been the same! I appreciate your thoughtful share of that tragic day!
              Abbracci e Baci...
              ~Laura~

GRATZIE LAURA ~ Si un giorno molto triste per USA e il MONDO ! We only saw it on the TV (In IOWA) 8:42 am N Tower then 9:03 am S Tower it was then we knew it was not an accident but a terrorist attack ! To see it from your Office Window and then see them collapse must have seemed like "The End of the End of the World !" I will pray for you tomorrow ~ Abbracci e Baci Tu Amico BRIAN XOXOX
