Summer Lawns
I charged $20 a lawn
When using my own mower
I was out of school
And making money like never before
Some days it was garden beds
Pulling weeds and planting flowers
Saving the money that I made
At $20-an-hour
I mulched with my mower
And fed the hungry grass
And in two weeks did it over
Until the season passed
Iced tea quenched my thirst
After a job was done
And I soaked my head with a hose
To cool my body some
I saved my hard-earned dollars
From all those summer days
And saw a baseball glove
And put it on layaway
I learned a good work ethic
In mowing those summer lawns
And when I started school
I took it and my glove along

Those weekend jobs done while at school were worth there weight in gold.
I started with chores around the house and a little later mowed lawns and raked leaves. My first official job after that was at the local grocery store where i did everything from sweeping and mopping to stocking and operating a cash register. And the list goes on and on!
A fine write w c. I used to help a milkman as a teenager, when there were more milk-floats about.
Thanks, orchidee. I love milk and milk-floats. I'm afraid i'd drink them up before they could be sold.
Oh but I used to be afraid of ANY dog, even chihuahuas - though they can be nippy! I left the milkman to do the houses I knew had dogs in them.
