BOARD-BALLET.

Fay Slimm.

Board-Ballet.

Here confident hopes echo each year
as with mid-summer heat
top class surfers meet with bravado
to crest mighty waves.

Minds leave initial gigantic roller fear
behind and sweeten each
judge's eye with clever liquid control
astride wild breakers.

When performing board-ballet an Ace
poses atop crashing foam.
which though beguiling takes courage
like rope-walkers face.

Surfing addicts learn to afford respect
at every turn, finely tuned
bodies bow to force yet sit unmoved
to rise on next crest.

At Fistral beach great breaker heights
are conquered by those
with timely experience and no doubts
about who is best.

Mediocre wet-suits like me stay away
from champion contests
where token commitment shows and
watch top Aces at play.

  • Comment from author about the poem: The picture is of a Fistral beach surfer riding gigantic breakers - - fantastic to watch the experts on boards - what courage to take on wild ocean tidal force.

THANKS FAY ~ For verbal feast in praise of SURFING ! Each word painted a picture and I could feel and taste the SURF ! Great photo too. Any subject embellished with your poetic skill materialises before our eyes ! Angela and I are great SAILORS and we have both tried surfing & sail bards ~ BUT we prefer the safety & stability of an Albacore or a Catamaran ! Thanks fir sharing ~ Yours as always BRIAN.
