Or so I'd like to think...

Andrew Charles Forrest

Or so I'd like to think ...

An angel met Elizabeth as she lay in bed, so scared

questioning her life and all she’d given

skin a little wrinkled, fairly frail and silver haired

widow to a pilot, and six children

“I’ve never owed a penny”, she proudly told her peers

“Not like others, who paraded all about”

The angel smiled at Elizabeth and whispered in her ear

“That’s why I’ll be here with you, when the lights go out”

“We shall walk the walk together, hand in hand across the River”

“To where the elderflower blossoms ‘neath the fern”

“When I call you don’t be frightened any more, I will deliver”

“In the garden we shall watch the sunset burn”

So Elizabeth went with him, and they strolled across the water

Heavy hearted for the love she left behind

But the angel told Elizabeth, he too loved their sons and daughters

“Now let’s fly and see what new love we can Find”?

Such a tender feel to this poem Andrew - -angels are guardians to those who would wish and who knows where they will lead us - a lovely reminder that we are not left all alone.
