Tree Ducks

Tree Ducks

I took a walk in the city park

And saw ducks in a tree

Their web feet on the bark

Very surprising to me

To see them there was exciting

And was a real delight

As they were brand new to me

And not previously identified

There were two at my home

That soon came every day

To eat my scattered pone

In the afternoon quite late

Before long there were many

At the pone each time I looked

And they ate while I was sitting

With handfuls that they took

My next walk at the city park

I saw the others again

And I knew them as tree ducks

And the name befitted them

Good write, I know that some ducks lay their eggs in trees and the young risk injury when they jump from them.

Here we have wood ducks that nest in trees. When ready, the ducklings leave the nest cavity and fall to the water or land below. I've only seen it on TV and would love to witness them as they venture out.

Thanks, orchidee. I wasn't sure how well the ducks could be seen in the picture.

I loved reading this entertaining piece. I've not heard of this before.

Thanks, dusk. It really is odd to see ducks in a tree. I knew that wood ducks nested in trees but was unaware that tree ducks hung out there, too.
