Whatever has happened to it?
When I was employed
I was expected to work every day,
Every day that I was due to work.
Apparently this has now stopped,
And some people work when they want,
And if they don’t want to bother,
They just do not turn up
Knowing that they will not be sacked,
As the scheme of life
Knows they will be needed.
I just do not understand,
Do not understand what happened,
Whatever has happened to it?
Where has integrity gone?

Out of the window I am afraid. Even when I was working there were many who claimed to be working from home - well they may have put a bit of time in but seemed to be pursuing their own interests for the rest of the day.
So true nowadays Michael and even way back when I worked for the Civil Service there was a sickness scheme where you could have a total of ten days sick during the past years work, some people used to mark the days sick and when they were due another one would go sick - I was not one of those.
It's not really an 'olden days' thing. It's plain rudeness and selfishness, I think.
Some would not dream of 'just not turning up', whether for work or for whatever situation..
Ahh, the 'working from home' thing? Are they? Or is it an old chestnut?
I used to work from home sometimes, normally over the weekend when I could get onto computers on the various sites where our firm provided the software.
That's valid, as some 'work from home'. But what about those who hardly turn up? We may think 'Oh yeah, pull the other one, it's got bells on!'
The admin who worked for my lawyers after I left last year has already left..... apparently my boss "was being mean to her" because he got annoyed that she wanted to go home whenever she thought it was all right..... "because the lawyers do it".... well of course they were working 24/7 wherever they were - conference calls on the train, in the car, at breakfast....... I feel a little guilty that I left them in the lurch....... And have always loved the song too Andy!
Yes Lorna, some people just cannot see the need to work with integrity.
I can still play the opening chords to that song on the guitar and I haven't played the guitar seriously for many, many year.
Andy,
I hadnāt heard that song in a while! It was nice to hear it again! Thank you for posting it!
As far as working from home...
Many do take advantage!
Of course, there are others who are conscientious and do not take advantage of the choice they have been given!
I enjoyed the the read! Thank you!
My love to Joyce and you!
~Laura~
