WITH YOU.

Fay Slimm.

WITH YOU.

Was it the early-bird flutter,
the before dawning pleasure of waking warmth
that reminds me best of last summer

or was it
those breakfasts with you ?

Was it the burgeoning fruit trees
of well laden apples greening to red which we
constantly shook that reminds me

or was it
those breakfasts with you ?

Was it the sight of colourful blooms,
or the late evening tide's race up quiet coves
or dancing in sand to favourite tunes

or was it
those breakfasts with you ?

Was it the smell of mushrooms fresh
from the field and frizzled with yesterday's
left-over toasted bread,

was it being caught out in the rain
or our sudden peals of laughter or the ideas

on world events we exchanged

was it love's willing refusal to lose
after dual confessions that I most remember

and our passionate displays of proof,

or was it
those breakfasts with you ?

Thanks Fay. Oohh I know, but some poets get TOO romantic, then I swoon. I should get out more in me sheltered life! heehee.

Beautiful words Fay. You've captured all the "little" things that make romance so special.

          • Fay Slimm.

Yes Debs - - it is the small things that make a success of romance I agree - thank you for your visit and comment and am pleased you enjoyed the read.

          • Tamara Beryl Latham - The Poet

Fay, this poem is filled with sentiment from the heart. A fine romantic piece that hammers home the intimacy with the repeating line, "Or was it
            those breakfasts with you ?"

            Excellent write, Fay. 🙂

            • Fay Slimm.

Yes that repetition of those breakfasts and what they now mean does drive home the hidden agenda's of the one now alone. Thanks so much Tamara for reading and commenting on a rather special poem. So pleased you enjoyed the write.

Wonderful. Recounted beautiful things which remain long after the physical parting. These validate our being, reminding us that we are worthy of the wonderous experiences shared with such a special 'other'.
Reflecting upon the love shared rather than the loss is the positive way to reminisce. I know it is so for me.

I would be hard pushed to say it any better than many of my reviewing predecessors... A lovely poem and filled with correspondingly lovely imagery and concepts... I can't remember the last full English I enjoyed.. but am gonna have one first thing tomorrow, I can tell ya..... Neville
